Tutor Groups...

Groupings

Most classes (registration groups) have about 30 pupils and have a balance of boys and girls. The groups are not sorted by ability. The tutor stays with the same group for at least two years, sometimes until year 11. There is a mixture of interests and sports abilities in each group so that not all the sports people are in the same group.

In most subjects you are taught in registration groups. In IT, Technology and Expressive Arts (Music, drama and art) you are taught in smaller groups of about 20.

There are year 8 tutor groups and the same for year 7.

These are:-

8C 8R 8E 8D 8I 8T 8O 8N 8S

7C 7R 7E 7D 7I 7T 7O 7N 7S

The letters spell out CREDITONS

Registration

Registration is straight after the bell in the morning. You will probably have to wait outside for your Tutor to arrive. Then, when your tutor arrives, he/she will tell you to go into your registration room. When the class is seated and settled and silent, your tutor will take the register and announce any important notices.

At the beginning of the year, each tutor group will be given a room and this will be your registration room for the rest of the year.

Punctuality
  • Parents should ring the College if a student is going to be absent
  • Students who arrive late to registration (after 8.55 am) or late to lesson (after the rest of the class) with no good reason may receive a lunchtime or breaktime detention on that day.

Mentors

Your mentor may be the person who takes the register in the mornings. He/she will meet with you regularly to discuss your progress, achievements and successes and to talk to you about any problems or difficulties. Your mentor will meet your parents at Parents’ Evenings and may phone them from time to time.

Lesson Times

Unlike at your Primary School, you have different lessons in different rooms with different teachers. When you first arrive at QECC, you will be given a map of the site to help you find your way around.
